Inbound and their importance in search engine optimisation (SEO) has long been a re-discussed issue. Therefore, in this article I was going to tell you more about what links are in, and find out how important they really are for a successful SEO work.
What are links?
In the SEO world, you usually talk a lot about inbound and outbound links. To briefly describe the links, it is simply links that point to your site from another site. Links are just the opposite – links pointing from your site to someone else’s.
Are Links Important For SEO?
As mentioned earlier, links have long been a hot topic in SEO. The reason for this is because links have historically been one of Google’s foremost ranking factors. In other words, one of the most important factors that determines whether a site is positioned among search results.
It all began during the early years of the search giant, during which Google’s founder Sergey Brin and Larry Page developed and patented a mathematical formula named PageRank (PA) . What this formula did was to estimate the “value of a page” by considering the quantity and quality of the page’s links.
This was quickly snapped up by SEO consultants and agencies, which started sending hundreds of links to their clients, then climbing into the SERP in record speed. Something that was not appreciated by Google at all. For this reason, one finally chose to scrape PageRank . Later, most attempts have been made to tone down the importance of the links as a ranking factor.
That being said, the question remains – how important are inbound links to succeed in the search engines today?
Inbound links and its meaning 2019
Personally, I would say that links are still one of Google’s top ranking factors. From experience, I have seen a clear connection between a website’s links and its positions among the search results. In other words – the more high-quality links a website has, the better it ranks with Google.
However, I am not the only one who is of this opinion. Every year, most of the studies are being carried out, all of which attempt to demonstrate the importance of links in the SERP. As an example, Stone Temple published in January a survey that showed a strong correlation between links and good positions among the search results:
In summary, therefore, links are still very important in order to succeed in the search engines. However, from the Moz survey to judge, it seems to be more important to focus on quality over quantity.
